| Epoch Musical Instruments was
established by Southport, Queensland businessman Mark
Mitchell as an adjunct to his successful vehicle
after-market air conditioning, car alarm and accessories
retail and wholesale importing businesses.
While violins and strings seem
far removed from auto parts, it was the success of the
distribution system which led to the formation of SCI
International Pty Ltd and an alliance with long
established public relations man Ken Newton, managing
director of Newton's Pty Ltd, whose business has been
operating out of the Gold Coast since 1975.
Between them, Mark Mitchell and
Ken Newton have a strong interest in good music. Mark's
daughter was a senior viola player in the Gold Coast
Youth Orchestra and her own school orchestra and is now
a graduate in music and drama from Griffith University and the
Queensland Conservatorium of Music.
